The Mom’s Choice Awards Names ‘Bee, Honey Bunny and Me’ among the Best in Family-Friendly Products.
Lavelle Carlson (author) and John D Moulton (illustrator) are honored to announce that the Children’s book, ‘Bee, Honey Bunny and Me’ has earned the prestigious Mom’s Choice Award®. Having been rigorously evaluated by a panel of MCA evaluators, ‘Bee Honey Bunny and Me’ is deemed to be among the best products for families.

DENTON, TEXAS. The Mom’s Choice Awards® has named, ‘Bee Honey Bunny and Me’ among the best in family-friendly media, products and services. The MCA evaluation process uses a propriety methodology in which entries are scored on a number of elements including production quality, design, educational value, entertainment value, originality, appeal, and cost.
“We are thrilled to earn the Mom’s Choice Awards Honoring Excellence Seal of Approval,” says Lavelle Carlson, author. “We know all the great things the MCA does to connect consumers, educators, and caregivers with the best products and services available for families.
To be considered for an award, each entrant submits five (5) identical samples for testing. Entries are matched to evaluators in the MCA database. Evaluators are bound by a strict code of ethics not only to ensure objectivity, but also to ensure that the evaluation is free from manufacturer influence. The five evaluations are submitted to the MCA Executive Committee for final review and approval.
“Our aim to introduce families and educators to best-in-class products and services,” explains Dawn Matheson, Executive Director of the Mom’s Choice Awards. “We have a passion to help families grow emotionally, physically and spiritually. With the evaluation now complete, the testing samples of ‘Bee, Honey Bunny and Me’ will be donated to schools, libraries, hospitals and nonprofit organizations.

About John D Moulton: Moulton was born in Manchester, England. Though always creative, his passion for art and writing was never truly exercised until his retirement in 2006. It was then he began to hone his skills in portraiture, with colour pencils, water colours and oils. But it wasn’t until he was approached by author, Lavelle Carlson, to create the illustrations for her latest children’s book, ‘Bee, Honey Bunny and Me’, that John considered a move in this direction and took on the task with relish.

Denton, Texas author and Denton, Texas artist collaborate.
Author, Lavelle Carlson, spotted an artwork posted on her local NextDoor website by local artist, John D Moulton. She approached him to ask if he would consider creating the illustrations for her (then) up-coming children’s book, ‘Bee, Honey Bunny and Me’. John specialises in portraits created in color pencils, water colours and oils, but had never tackled illustrative work before.
He lept at the chance, seeing this as an opportunity to exercise the skills he had long admired in works by the late Beatrix Potter in stories such as Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny.
The result was a collaboration, neither had quite envisioned. Carlson honed her story and Moulton followed through with illustrations that captured her every thought – and sometimes a little more.
The book tells the story of a little girl who loves rabbits and hates carrots. One night she has a dream about a baby bunny with exactly the same issue and how the mother bunny found a friend with an answer that would make her baby bunny very happy indeed.
Interestingly, Carlson and Moulton decided the final pages of the book would be dedicated to helping children understand the important roll bees play in all our lives and thoughts well worth thinking about the plight of the humble bumblebee.

AUTHOR, LAVELLE CARLSON
Lavelle was born in Texas and lived in England and Norway for ten years. Following her return from overseas she received her Masters in the field of speech/language pathology. During her career she worked with a variety of special children. These children as well as her grandchildren have been her inspiration for writing books. Her storybooks are written to entertain and teach early reading concepts.

Illustrator, John D Moulton
